No matter how hard we try to find an original viewpoint of the Pont d'Arc, it's a wasted effort. Millions of people have taken millions of photos from the 4 or 5 available locations and it's still the same. But there is one thing I can tell you, if you have never seen it, is that this natural bridge is much more impressive than it appears in photos with its height of 54 meters and its length of 60 meters, It's nice to sit there and watch the kayaks go by, get your fill of fresh air and tranquility (in winter). I like to imagine our Neanderthal ancestors crossing it to get to their cave that we call Chauvet today: What were they going to do there? How high did the river rise? With what fury did the now dried meander strike the rocks?
The answers to these questions are probably available at Grotte Chauvet 2, an extraordinary replica of the Pont d'Arc cave... Not far from Mas g'Ardéchois, we visited it several times. I did not expect not so precise! I didn't expect so much veracity... it feels like it's in the real cave.
But Vallon Pont d'Arc is also a pretty village to visit, with its terraces, its restaurants, and its streets full of life.
